Application & Member Process

Residents of all skill levels are welcome to apply for membership in Milton Township CERT. However, there are age restrictions: the minimum age for membership is 16, and applicants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Additionally, all members are required to undergo background checks. The good news is that training is completely free for all residents of DuPage County.
Joining CERT is a great way to help your community prepare for emergencies and provide support when needed. You'll learn important skills, gain confidence, and meet like-minded individuals.
Classes are offered in the spring and fall.
Don’t miss your chance to make a difference—sign up for CERT training today!
What to Expect During Training:
The introductory course provides the foundational skills necessary for performing essential CERT functions. Each member must complete a 12-hour online course through the University of Utah, followed by a dynamic four-week in-person class filled with hands-on learning.
Throughout the course, each team member will receive a backpack filled with essential tools and equipment as a lasting gift for their commitment to the Milton Township CERT. Graduates will be awarded a certification from the State of Illinois, along with a photo ID that is recognized by all first responders in DuPage County.
New members in training are advised to wear comfortable and easy-to-move-in clothing during the hands-on learning training. We also advise you to wear closed-toed shoes.

Being a CERT Member after Training:
Upon completing the course, you will be prepared to participate in numerous community events throughout the year, such as local parades, festivals, and concerts. Our CERT leaders make an effort to keep all team members informed through the weekly distributed CERT membership email newsletter. This newsletter recaps previous events, and lists upcoming events. Within the weekly CERT newsletter members are able to sign up to volunteer for upcoming events.
