Township

Townships were first established in 1636 to meet the needs of local residents in our country. From those early colonial days to now, the needs of local residents are still the preeminent focus of townships. Established in 1850 and located in the heart of DuPage County, Milton Township has continued its long heritage of community service.

Milton Township exists to provide needed assistance, infrastructure, and services to its residents. Specifically, Milton Township serves by providing emergency assistance to the under-resourced, maintaining roads in unincorporated areas, providing answers to property owners, and maintaining official records related to Milton Township. In addition, Milton Township plays a vital role in supporting and collaborating with other local government bodies and organizations to best serve the people of Milton Township.

The Township Supervisor is a 4-year elected position. Elizabeth “Buffy” Higgins-Beard is your Milton Township Supervisor, elected in April 2025. It is the responsibility of the Township Supervisor to manage the Township's daily operations, including:

• Administer general and emergency assistance funds to provide temporary financial relief for people without an income or to help low-income families avoid eviction or the loss of utilities during times of financial crisis.
•  Provide fiscal oversight of all township funds, serving as the treasurer of the township.
•  Act as Chairman of the Township Board, chairing the township board, presiding over meetings where policy is set, budgets adopted, and ordinances enacted.

Milton Township is a team dedicated to fostering a supportive environment. We are local, knowledgeable, compassionate, and committed to assisting every resident.

“Be assured, we understand that we are here for you, with you, and because of you!”

- Supervisor Higgins-Beard.
