Township government is one of the oldest forms of government in Illinois.

Townships have four mandatory functions:

1. Administering a general assistance program through the Supervisor's office for qualifying residents.
2. Maintaining highways and bridges within the township road district
3. Assessing real estate property.
4. Preserving and maintaining vital records in the Clerk's office.

Established in 1850, Milton Township has evolved into a resource for many, continually expanding and adapting our services to empower and support all of our residents.
