Freedom of Information (FOIA)
Freedom of Information Act
Like all public bodies, Milton Township is subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 5 ILCS 140/1, et seq. It is the public policy of the State of Illinois that access by all persons to public records promotes the transparency and accountability of public bodies at all levels of government. It is a fundamental obligation of the government to operate openly and provide public records as expediently and efficiently as possible in compliance with the Act.
The Act is not intended to cause an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy, nor to allow the requests of a commercial enterprise to unduly burden public resources, or to disrupt the duly-undertaken work of any public body independent of the fulfillment of any of the fore-mentioned rights of the people to access to information.
Milton Township officials are well aware of their responsibilities under the Act and will comply with its provisions. While no specific form is required to request information, a suggested form is provided for convenience, below.
Our officials believe that government acts and operations should be open and transparent. To that end, our website contains links to agendas, meeting minutes and general financial information, as well as other matters of interest. You are encouraged to review that information before making a FOIA request. Furthermore, since FOIA requests are limited to existing documents and records, you are invited to personally contact any of our officials with general or specific questions and they will try assist you in understanding any aspect of our operations.
Please Note: A $5.00 fee will be added to all flash drive requests.
