MILTON TOWNSHIP S.A.L.T. COUNCIL

S.A.L.T. Council

SENIORS & LAW ENFORCEMENT TOGETHER (S.A.L.T.) MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of the Milton Township S.A.L.T. Council is to determine and meet the needs of senior citizens by reducing crime and abuse and enhancing safety through communication and education in cooperation with the Township, law enforcement, and other community agencies and organizations.

The S.A.L.T. Council meets every second Monday of the month at 10:00AM at St. Daniel the Prophet Church at 101 W Loop Road in Wheaton. Meetings typically last around one hour and cover a variety of topics important to seniors. If the Monday is a holiday, the meeting will be held on the next day, Tuesday.

Each meeting also features a special guest speaker. Past speakers include representatives from ComEd to discuss new smart meter installation, local attorneys who specialize in physical and financial abuse of elders, and a fire chief discussing fire safety and prevention. We welcome all to please come and join us.

The S.A.L.T. Council publishes a quarterly newsletter called The Communicator which reaches more than 12,000 senior readers in Milton Township. Articles reflect helpful information from presentations at the monthly S.A.L.T. Council meetings.

S.A.L.T. offers a website, www.miltontownshipsalt.com, dedicated to resources benefiting seniors.  Click here to visit that site.  Issues of The Communicator and monthly Scam Reports are found on this site.

A special event offered by S.A.L.T. each year is the Senior's Auto Inspection. Held in October, it is designed to help seniors get their cars ready for winter driving. Volunteers from auto repair companies, local law enforcement, local high schools and more gather to check everything from fluids and batteries under the hood to the condition of the tires on the road and in the trunk.
